How do I transfer my Student File to a new installation?

If you get a new computer, or you want to use Ten Thumbs on more than one workstation, you may want to transfer your student progress between machines, so that you don't have to start again from the beginning. You can do this using the Export and Import buttons on your Students screen.

Export your progress

To export your student file, click on the student (1) you want to export, and then on Export Student (2). A dialog will appear asking where you want to save the file (3). Choose a location and hit Save (4).

Transfer the File

Locate the file which should be called <yourname>.tts, and saved in the location you chose. Transfer the file to your new location. You can do this by eg emailing it to yourself, saving to a thumb drive, dropping it into a chat program (you may need to zip it up first), using a direct file transfer protocol between computers, or any other method you can think of for transferring files between computers.

Import the file

To import the file, open Ten Thumbs in the new location, and click on Import Student (1). A dialog will appear allowing you to locate and choose the file you want (2).  Click Open (3).

Your file will be imported for you to start using. Note: if you already have a student in the new location with the same name as the file you are importing, you will see a dialog asking you to choose another name. Simple rename the student file before trying again to import it.
